What is Pearson BTEC Level1 / 2 first award in sport?

The BTEC First Award is a four-unit course that you can study alongside GCSEs or other BTEC Level 2 programmes. You will look at a range of topics such as fitness testing, training, sports leadership and practical sports performance.

Why study this course?

Students are able to access the different units within the course through both practical ability and theory. It is not solely based on their sporting ability and it also allows them to gain and improve leadership skills.

What can you expect from this course?

To gain an understanding and knowledge of a variety of aspects within sport. To learn and apply leadership skills, understand the anatomy and how the body works during exercise. To develop knowledge and understanding of a variety of sports and analyse own performance and fitness levels to be able to create a programme to help improve and measure own personal fitness and set goals.

How is it assessed?

Through one unit of coursework and one unit consisting of a computer-based exam.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Playing a sport outside of school will be a benefit.

What can I do after completing this qualification?

Go on to study level 3 at either college of another sixth form.
