This week at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC and The Studio School, students took part in a range of exciting projects. Dylan and Elias began an experiment on Kombucha’s antibacterial properties, while our Spanish exchange students joined classes and made new connections. STEAM students explored woodworking, and Year 13 visited Auschwitz through the Lessons from Auschwitz programme. In art, Year 12 focused on life drawings, and Surrealism projects kicked off at The Studio. Students also started a Lab Metalytics project, while Michael excelled during work experience at Nexatrak. Lastly, students explored creative thinking tied to the Sustainable Development Goals. I don’t know how we fit it all in.

Life drawings at the Studio School
This week our Year 12 students were tasked with quick sketching portraits of a female model, with charcoal in life drawings. Charcoal offers a range of benefits, including rich, deep blacks and a wide tonal range. It allows for expressive mark-making and can be easily blended for smooth gradations. Charcoal is also versatile for both detailed work and loose, sketchy effects. Year 11 students also participated in the session to help them refine their drawing and observational skills for their personal investigation project.
