It’s been another busy week! Year 13 student Evelyn gained valuable industry experience during her work placement at Zut Media, where she assisted on set and explored professional photography. Our Year 12 students visited FACT Liverpool to explore the Art Plays Games exhibition, which showcases the creative fusion of digital art and gaming. We also had the privilege of welcoming former Ofsted Chief Sir Michael Wilshaw, who praised our students for their focus and creativity. Meanwhile, Year 10 students participated in the BIMA Digital Insight Day, teaming up with Mando Agency to explore exciting careers in the digital sector. Read on for more details and photos!

We were delighted to welcome Sir Michael Wilshaw to the CUC this week. Sir Michael was the Chief Inspector of Schools in England and head of Ofsted from 2012 until 2016 and was thoroughly impressed by the work we are doing here. He was particularly delighted to see our students working tirelessly with focus and excellent behaviour – even at 4:00!

The Studio School trip to FACT
Last week, Year 12 Creative students visited Fact Liverpool to see an exhibition which has transformed the first-floor gallery into a space for games created by digital artists and independent video game developers. Fun, playful and suitable for gamers and non-gamers of all ages, Art Plays Games looks at how artists are increasingly using games as a way to challenge conventional forms of storytelling and offer us new ways to make sense of the world today. Over the exhibition’s run, the artworks and games on display will rotate, introducing something different to discover each time you visit! The exhibition currently houses works by artists Tomo Kihara and Playfool, Porpentine Charity Heartscape, Laura Palavecino, and Ayoung Kim.

Work Experience at Zut Media
Last week, one of our current Year 13 Studio students, Evelyn spent three days at Zut Media who are a Creative Agency based in Knowsley. We enquired about Evelyn’s activities during her time there, and she explained that she acted as a runner, assisting with the set-up of props and lighting and acted as a stand in model for lighting tests.
|
|
Evelyn also contributed with the retouching of images and even got to use their state-of-the-art equipment to take some photos of her own. When we asked Evelyn what part she enjoyed the most about her time at Zut Media, she said she enjoyed the experience of working on set. In terms of how it has prepared her for the jobs of tomorrow, Evelyn stated “It’s given me an insight into what it would be like to work in that environment and reinforced how I feel about working in this profession.”

Sickness procedure
From a safeguarding perspective, students who indicate they are feeling unwell will not be sent out of class as an unwell/injured student unaided may faint on the stairs or corridor. Staff will call first aid and first aid will go to the student. Students are not to contact home themselves when they are unwell, staff will call parents if needed.

Uniform and equipment reminder
I would like to remind parents of the uniform standards with regard to girl’s trousers. A small number of students are wearing fashion trousers – these are made of Lycra material and flared leggings in style. The expectation is for students to wear school trousers or a pleated skirt. As the weather is getting colder please ensure your child has a warm, waterproof coat. All students are required to have a school bag with them every day. This must be large enough to carry a number of A4 revision guides. We will provide your child with a suitable bag if they are unable to obtain one.
Jill Davies, Principal at Life Sciences and The Studio School.
