Skills Show Success!

On Monday 18th June, the Life Sciences UTC were delighted to exhibit at The Liverpool City Region Skills Show at the Exhibition Centre, Liverpool as part of the International Business Festival.

Backed by the European Social Fund, the day saw businesses and likeminded organisations from across the Northwest join together to host a day of hands-on activities, career related seminars and interactive sessions in a bid to help visitors explore their options and discover a wide range of career and apprenticeship opportunities.

Regular visitors of the UTC will be familiar with ‘Craig’ – our resident Laerdal advanced simulator doll used for training in emergencies, however the Skills Show invited the perfect opportunity to showcase his impressive features to the wider community for his first public outing of the term.

Our student health team were on hand throughout the day, enacting a number of lifelike A&E, medical and trauma scenarios. The team also answered burning questions from visitors, including the many local schools and businesses who popped by.

After spending the day demonstrating their medical skills, the afternoon gave the student health team the perfect opportunity to put their networking skills to the test. They took this time to explore other likeminded organisations and their stands. Notably, following a discussion with the brilliant team at North West Ambulance Service, a handful of our enterprising student health team secured themselves a work experience placement for this coming Summer!

During the skills show, The Life Sciences UTC also showcased its first ever edition of the Baltic Health Journal – an original in-house publication designed to keep the local area up to date with all the latest health news from in and around the Life Sciences UTC and the wider City Region, produced by our in-house team, and lots of input from our students themselves.

Overall, the day was a brilliant success, with over 50 Educational establishments visiting the event.

The Life Sciences UTC thoroughly enjoyed exhibiting as advocates of outstanding academic and vocational education to in excess of 2,452 visiting students, tutors and teachers.
