We run a free breakfast club for any students who wish to attend; toast and hot drinks are provided during the session, and it’s a great way to get the brain in gear before classes begin.
Breaktimes are taken during longer learning sessions and fit in with the flow of learning, as well as reflecting the schedule of a working day.
We use a cashless catering system. The value of any free school meal allowance will be loaded daily on to the students’ ID card and we provide cash loader machines to allow students to load cash on to their ID cards within the school building.

Lunchtime at the UTC runs from 11:45 until 13:35, with students accessing lunchtime facilities at different intervals throughout the hour. We ensure that our lunch offering is broad and healthy, allowing our students to have a balanced diet; our caterers provide high quality, low fat meals, with a range of fresh fruit and vegetables each day.
We supply sandwiches, fresh fruit, healthy tray bakes and fruit juice; students can tailor make their own lunch, by choosing from our varied food options. We also have a hot food option, with menus following a three-week cycle – all our hot food is nutritionally balanced and healthy. Packed lunches can be brought, but we request that no fizzy drinks or sweets are included.
GCSE students are not permitted off the premises during lunchtime without prior permission from a parent or guardian, and the student must be going to their own home, where they can be supervised whilst there. Sixth Form students are permitted to go off site during the lunch break. Using takeaways and eating in the streets is forbidden in school uniform.
