Life Sciences Investment Zone plans to supercharge opportunities

Ambitious plans to supercharge Life Sciences across the Liverpool City Region have been unveiled in a new prospectus.

Showcasing 21 projects that will create new hi-tech facilities, 8,000 new jobs and save lives across the world, major developments are proposed at Maghull Health Park, St Helens Manufacturing and Innovation Campus, Earlsfield Park Knowsley, Sci-Tech Daresbury and Knowledge Quarter Liverpool. In the Knowledge Quarter, two new buildings will provide additional laboratory space to boost the city region’s world-leading infection innovation capabilities too.

Liverpool partners in £4m mental health research hub

The University of Liverpool is part of a new £4 million research hub to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and support for people experiencing severe mental illness (SMI).

Led by Queen Mary University of London, the new hub aims to generate knowledge on the role of the conditions in which people are born, grow, work, live and age in influencing the course and outcomes of SMIs and explore how ‘protective’ social factors can be used to build resilience and recovery in people with SMIs.

AstraZeneca to build £450m vaccine factory in Speke

Global pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca has outlined plans to invest £450 million at its manufacturing site in Speke for the research, development, and manufacture of vaccines.

Building on the site’s current role in supplying world leading childhood vaccination programmes, as well as creating new highly-skilled jobs at the forefront of tackling emerging diseases and improving healthcare systems, the new facility will be designed and built to be operationally net zero with power supplied from renewable energy sources.
