Holly’s story: From MeDeVet to Oxford

Liverpool Life Sciences UTC proudly celebrates Holly’s exceptional journey, marking a significant milestone as she becomes the first in her family to attend university. Achieving an outstanding three A*s in Biology, Chemistry, and Maths, Holly initially enrolled in the MeDeVet programme with aspirations in medicine.

Throughout her time at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC, Holly immersed herself in the rigorous academic training and practical experiences offered by the MeDeVet programme. However, as she progressed, Holly discovered a newfound passion for Chemistry, prompting a change in her academic direction.

Reflecting on her journey, Holly shared, “Liverpool Life Sciences UTC provided me with so much support and guidance, not just with the academic side of things. While I initially pursued medicine through the MeDeVet programme, I realised that Chemistry resonated more deeply with my skills and career aspirations. Initially, Oxford wasn’t on my radar until it was suggested to me, but I am so pleased I embraced the opportunity.”

Despite initially aiming for a career in medicine, Holly’s dedication and commitment to excellence remained unwavering. Her achievement of three A*s is a testament to her hard work and the supportive environment fostered at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC.

Andy, Head of Science, praised Holly’s journey, stating, “Holly has demonstrated all the essential attributes of being a good chemist. Her rigorous approach to understanding complex concepts, meticulous attention to detail in practical experiments, and ability to think critically and analytically are truly commendable. In addition to her academic prowess, Holly’s passion for ballet has instilled in her a discipline and dedication that further enriches her journey.”

Principal Jill Davies highlighted the school’s commitment to nurturing individual potential, stating, “Holly’s journey exemplifies the spirit of exploration and growth we encourage at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC. We are incredibly proud of her achievements and look forward to seeing her thrive as she pursues her passion for Chemistry.”

Holly’s decision to pursue Chemistry at university underscores the importance of exploring different pathways and finding the right fit for one’s academic and career goals. Her story serves as an inspiration to future students navigating their own educational journeys at Liverpool Life Sciences UTC.
As Holly prepares to embark on this new chapter at university, Liverpool Life Sciences UTC remains dedicated to supporting students like her, ensuring they have the tools and opportunities to succeed in their chosen fields. The rarity of securing one of only two places at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, further highlights Holly’s exceptional accomplishment and the bright future ahead of her in the field of Chemistry.

Holly is one of many of our exceptional students, all of whom we are incredibly proud of. The results are not the only reflection of how hard-working they are throughout the year, but the sense of achievement that radiates from them when they gather around with their friends, sharing, supporting and looking back on all that they’ve accomplished together and as individuals.
